The Institute of Sound and Vision

Dutch visitors of the museum will discover YouTube’s impact on their lives. During the first month the main focus is vlogging and sharing your life on YouTube. Famous Dutch Youtubers Gio, Melanie La en their parents The Latooys select the best YouTube videos for the exhibition. They are also visiting the exhibition and have meet and greets with their fans.

YouTube impact
The Media Landscape has changed rapidly in the past decade. You can watch videos whenever and wherever you want and anyone can produce their own content easier than ever. YouTube has become the largest online video platform. These developments are the reason for the Institute of Sound and Vision to start ‘Let’s YouTube’. In cooperation with YouTube and Youtubers a interactive exhibition has been created where visitors can discover what impact YouTube has on their lives.

In Let's YouTube visitors go to work themselves: they test their knowledge and understanding about the effects of YouTube to score points, with which they can unlock the YouTube Rooms. In these rooms they step into the shoes of the Creators to create a video and upload it to the Upload bar. They can watch their homemade video on a large screen there. The exhibition also highlights the short but turbulent development of YouTube in the changing media landscape and the emergence of the Creator, the modern successor to the amateur filmmaker.

Each month, the theme of the exhibition changes. After Your Life themes like gaming, beauty, music and journalism will be covered in the next eight months. Each theme has its own ambassador: a YouTuber or other famous person who shows his or her views on the topic by selecting videos throughout the exhibit. The Institute of Sound and Vision furthermore organizes events that are connected with that theme, such as master classes, workshops and meet and greets with famous YouTubers.
